Hester’s Story

Over 380 years ago, Nathaniel Hawthorne’s real-life inspired character of Hester Prynne was freed from a dark prison and led into the light of day before the judgmental eyes of her community, a Scarlet Letter “A” sewn to the breast of her clothes .

Her crime? Falling in love with and bearing the child of a man with whom Puritan norms said she could never be.

But despite the shame cast on her by others, Hester (and Nathaniel Hawthorne) knew, “Love… must always create a sunshine, filling the heart so full of radiance, that it overflows upon the outward world.’

And now, Prynne has risen through the pages of centuries and is back, this time with her own lifestyle brand promoting living your best life despite the judgement of others. The Hester Prynne Good Time Company offers products steeped in history and literary moments, reminding all to seek light, love, and joy, and to always remember, that YOU ARE AWESOME.

“The Scarlet Letter,” by Hugues Merle, 1861

“Let us not look back,” answered Hester Prynne. “The past is gone! Wherefore should we linger upon it now? See! With this symbol, I undo it all, and make it as it had never been!”

So speaking, she undid the clasp that fastened the scarlet letter, and, taking it from her bosom, threw it to a distance among the withered leaves….

The stigma gone, Hester heaved a long, deep sigh, in which the burden of shame and anguish departed from her spirit. O exquisite relief! She had not known the weight, until she felt the freedom!
